“It started with a burden and a prayer and God provided the rest.”

History

The Beginning

The original idea was born in the home and hearts of Bill and Dottie Basye. They worked closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, seeking a way to overcome the lack of adequate foster care available to children in central Idaho. To provide for the many children in crisis who needed a secure and loving home, they created a community initiative which quickly gathered support and momentum. The Shepherd’s Home was incorporated, in McCall, ID, as a nonprofit organization in 1996 and opened its doors, becoming fully operational in the spring of 1998.

The Present

Since that time the Shepherd’s Home has grown into a cherished and highly-regarded regional resource, providing not only a loving home for children in crisis but also providing additional programs for its residents and for community members to support the prevention of child abuse.

After moving to the Treasure Valley, the Basyes organized a meeting in 2018 to begin the process of providing care—modeled after the Shepherd’s Home—for youth in the Treasure Valley. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, Bill passed way but it was clear that God had touched his heart with this idea. His vision for a children’s home in the Treasure Valley lives on as we seek to accomplish it.

Friendship Celebration Lutheran Church leadership acted as the initial sponsor of a new foster home organization. Members of the church began to meet regularly in May of 2019. In June, Treasure Valley Children’s Home, Inc. was formally established and incorporated with the State of Idaho as a nonprofit organization. In July, our mission statement was written and a Board of Directors was named. In August the Board finalized goals and chose to operate under the name Treasured Home.

The Future

Treasured Home is seeking to partner with additional sponsors and individuals to expand the footprint of the organization, we have identified a location to build a home for up to 6 children, and plan to recruit trained parents to operate the home in compliance with regulatory standards. In the future, the hope is to have multiple homes to serve the needs of at-risk youth in the Treasure Valley.
