WHAT’S OUR WHY?

We believe every child deserves a safe and nurturing home and there is a great need in the Treasure Valley.

According to recent published studies:

  • In 2015, there were 1,623 victims of child abuse or neglect in Idaho, a rate of 37 per 1,000 children. Of these children, 76% were neglected, 23% were physically abused, and 4% were sexually abused.

  • In 2017, in Ada County, there were 5,242 emergency service (911) calls related to domestic abuse, sexual assault and child abuse.

  • In 2018, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare estimated that there were about 1,300 Idaho children in foster care, from very young children to teenagers. Some need temporary foster homes and are eventually able to return to their birth families. Some find permanent homes with a foster care family.

  • Currently, there are just over 1,000 children in foster care in the Treasure Valley alone and about 1,800 state wide.

With the population expansion in Idaho, and particularly in the Treasure Valley, these numbers will increase. There is clearly a need for additional safe and caring homes for victimized children.
